Ultimate is a sport of big moments – the long downfield huck, the layout goal, the end zone sky and the list goes on. Over the past four years of Major League Ultimate, those moments have been captured by our partners at UltiPhotos. In our series, Caught in Action, we will look at some of the great moments from MLU’s history and how they have been captured by the talented photographers at Ultiphotos.com. This week, we take a look at a moment captured by Pete Krautscheid.

Over the past several MLU seasons, the Boston Whitecaps and Philadelphia Spinners have developed quite the rivalry. The Whitecaps are the winningest franchise in MLU history, and the only one to win multiple championship titles. The Spinners are the only team with a winning record against the Whitecaps and the current league champions. Boston and Philadelphia have matched up in some of the most heated and closely contested games of the past years, and 2016 was no exception. Heading into Week 6 of the 2016 MLU Season the Spinners were undefeated, while the Whitecaps had lost only their Week 1 matchup with Philadelphia and were eager to return the favor.

While the Spinners lead for most of the game, entering halftime up 13-8, the Whitecaps weren’t done just yet. With their home fans behind them, the Whitecaps fought back, tying the game with just :03 seconds left in regulation. Momentum firmly on their side, the Whitecaps entered overtime pulling the disc with their D-line looking to start things off right. As Philadelphia worked the disc down the far sideline looking for the early edge, veteran Boston defender Terry Roth made one of his trademark incredible catches. Reacting to an under thrown pass, Roth stopped on a dime and leapt in the air and made a fantastic two-handed catch.

As Roth contorted his body mid-air, snagging the disc for the turn, Krautscheid snapped his shot. Now on offense, the Whitecaps were able to convert the break and take the lead in overtime. The defense would hold on and hand Philadelphia their first loss of the 2016 season. (BOXSCOREWATCH GAME)
